YOUR FIVE. YOUR STRATEGY.

Draft 15. Start 5. Fill 48.

15 players. Five unique roles. 48 minutes per role.

Hybrid Fantasy Basketball combines the straightforward scoring of points leagues with the team-building strategy of category leagues. Players earn fantasy points based on five roles, each rewarding different strengths—from playmaking and scoring to rebounding, defense, and shooting. With 48 minutes to fill in every role, winning means building a balanced rotation and finding the right fit for each player.

THE 48-MINUTE CHALLENGE

Beat the 2025–26 OKC Thunder

One player at a time. Choose their role, then reveal the next. Role choices are locked; players automatically sort into the best order within each role. Build a 15-player rotation to beat OKC’s optimized lineup: 229.2 fantasy points per game. Each role starts with 48 minutes. If its starter averages below 24 MPG, the role loses the difference—for example, a 20-MPG starter leaves 44 minutes.

    Why Choose Hybrid Fantasy Basketball?

RUN YOUR LEAGUE ON HYBRID FANTASY BASKETBALL

    Easy to understand.
    Closer to real basketball.

A familiar fantasy points total, with deeper choices about player roles, team balance, and who steps up when your starters sit.

    Our mission

Our mission is to make fantasy basketball simple, balanced, and closer to the real game.

We blend the simplicity of points leagues with the strategy of category leagues. Five positionless roles reward scoring, playmaking, defense, rebounding, and shooting from deep.

With 48 minutes per role and backups ready to step in, depth matters through resting and injuries. Build a complete team where every play style has value.

    01 · A BENCH WITH A PURPOSE

48 minutes. Your choices, in order.

Every role gets 48 minutes per matchup. Rank three players in each role: a starter, a first backup, and a second backup. The starter fills the minutes first, then the backups cover what remains.

If your starter misses their selected game, the next player in your rotation steps up. Injuries, rest, and load management become reasons to build depth and plan your lineup.

For example: A starter plays 32 minutes, leaving 16 for the first backup. If that backup plays 24 minutes, two-thirds of their fantasy score counts. The role still uses a maximum of 48 minutes.

You roster 15 players—three per role. Each player occupies one role and one priority slot at a time, including backups. One selected game per player contributes to the matchup.

02 · TWO FAMILIAR IDEAS, ONE FORMAT

    Points simplicity. Category-style strategy.

Points leagues make the result easy to follow. Category leagues give different skills a reason to matter. Hybrid Fantasy Basketball brings those strengths together through role-specific scoring that contributes to one team total.

You don’t need to track nine separate category battles, but you still need a balanced roster. An assist, a rebound, or a steal can carry different value depending on the role you choose for that player.

It gives a league with different format preferences a shared way to play: an understandable score with meaningful choices about fit and team construction.

03 · BUILD A TEAM BY WHAT PLAYERS DO

    Roles instead of rigid positions.

Modern basketball asks players to do more than their position label suggests. A big can run the offense. A guard can rebound. A wing can anchor a defense.

Choose from Playmaker, Volume Scorer, Paint Enforcer, Lockdown, and Floor Spacer. Any player can fill any role; their production determines how well they fit.

Assign players based on how they help your team, then decide where their strengths are most valuable. You get flexibility without losing the need to build a complete five.

04 · VALUE DIFFERENT WAYS TO WIN

    Reward impact through play style.

Our scoring is designed to recognize different contributions: creating offense, scoring efficiently, controlling the paint, disrupting opponents, and keeping a team connected.

The goal is balance across roles, so rebounds and blocks don’t give centers an automatic edge throughout the lineup. Big men can excel in the right role, while guards, wings, defenders, and versatile contributors have their own paths to value.

A player’s fantasy value should reflect what they contribute and how you use them. Strong roster construction means finding complementary strengths across all five roles.

Build a complete team. Give every role a purpose.

Hybrid Fantasy Basketball is built for managers who want a game that’s digestible enough to share with friends and realistic enough to reward thoughtful basketball decisions.

How Hybrid Fantasy Basketball scoring works

Build a 15-player roster with three players in each of five roles. Each player occupies one spot. The same performance earns different fantasy points depending on the player’s role.

    What each role rewards

    Playmaker

Running the offense. Assists earn a strong reward, while turnovers carry a bigger penalty. Points, rebounds, steals, and blocks contribute smaller amounts.

    Volume Scorer

Putting points on the board. Rewards +1.25 per point scored, with −0.25 per missed field goal. There is no three-pointer bonus.

    Paint Enforcer

Controlling the basket. Rebounds and blocks are the main rewards, with an extra bonus for offensive rebounds.

    Lockdown

Disrupting opponents. Steals, blocks, and deflections drive the score. Other core stats still contribute.

    Floor Spacer

Stretching the defense with perimeter shooting. Made threes earn a +6 bonus, while missed threes cost 0.25. Other core stats still contribute.

How to read the scoring table

Start with your player’s role column. Each row tells you how many fantasy points one of that stat earns or costs. Multiply the player’s stat total by that number, then add everything together.

For example, a value of +0.25 means each rebound earns 0.25 fantasy points. A value of −0.25 means each turnover costs 0.25. A 0 means that stat does not affect the score. Use the values shown—there is no extra base score to add.

Bonuses are extra rewards. An offensive rebound counts as a rebound and can also earn an offensive-rebound bonus. A made three counts as three points scored and can also earn a made-three bonus, depending on the role.

Example with default scoring: a Floor Spacer makes a three.
    3 points × 0.5 = 1.5 fantasy points
    1 made three × 6 = 6 bonus fantasy points
Total for that basket: 7.5 fantasy points.

Bold green values differ from the universal baseline: +0.25 for core stats, −0.25 for turnovers, and 0 for extra modifiers.

These are the default scoring values used by the challenge. Commissioners can customize their league’s scoring in League settings.

    How the 48-minute rotation works

Matchups follow NBA game numbers: Game 1 uses each NBA team’s first regular-season game, Game 2 its second, and so on. Several matchups can score at once. Set your three-player priorities separately for each matchup before its first NBA tipoff. Each role has its own 48 minutes per matchup, filled by priority 1, then 2, then 3.

A player contributes their full role score if all their minutes fit. If only some fit, their contribution is fantasy score × (minutes counted ÷ minutes played). Counted minutes never exceed the minutes they played.

Player 1 plays 34 minutes and scores 40 fantasy points: all 40 count. That leaves 14 minutes. Player 2 plays 28 minutes and scores 30 points: 30 × 14 ÷ 28 = 15 count. The role totals 55 points, and player 3 contributes nothing because the 48 minutes are filled.

DNPs use no minutes and score zero, so the next player fills in. Any minutes left after all three players score zero. Your team score is the sum of the five role totals.

The homepage challenge uses season averages. Saved leagues have matchup deadlines and ESPN game scoring in the Matchups section.

    What the tracking stats mean
    Deflection
A defender touches an opponent’s pass or dribble and disrupts the offense.
    Secondary assist
A pass to a teammate who records an assist within one second without dribbling.

Different recorded stats can count on the same play. For example, a steal and a deflection can both earn points.

    Estimated scores and missing data

If a tracking stat is missing, use that player’s average from recorded games that season. Mark the affected score Estimated. Actual recorded stats take priority when available.

A recorded zero stays zero. A DNP earns no estimated points. If there is no recorded average for a required stat, the score stays Pending.

The preview labels scores Estimated when hustle or passing coverage is incomplete. The player notes show recorded games / total games played, such as Hustle: 71/72.
